“People of Delhi contribute significantly to the Union Budget. Delhiites pay more than Rs 2 lakh crore in income tax and Rs 25,000 crore in central taxes. When we are one of the highest taxpayers of the country, some portion of our taxes should be allocated for us. We received not a single penny from the central government last time. This is step-motherly behaviour and exploitation of Delhiites. Rs 10,000 crore is just five per cent of our income tax, it should be given to the people of Delhi as it is their right and will help in increasing the pace of development in the city,” says Delhi Minister Atishi (

Why Does the Modi Govt Hate Delhiites? - Delhiites contribute ₹2 lakh 32 crore annually in income tax and CGST - Previously, Delhi used to receive ₹325 crore annually from central taxes. Last 2 years, Delhi received ₹0. In comparison: - Bangalore contributed ₹2 lakh crore , Karnataka received ₹33,000 crore. - Mumbai contributed ₹5 lakh crore , Maharashtra received ₹54,000 crore. Proposal by Delhi Govt: Central govt to allocate 0.25% (₹10,000 Cr) of union budget for Delhi's development, just like other states. Nearly 12 million Indian children were married before the age of 10 years--84% of them Hindu and 11% Muslim--reveals an IndiaSpend analysis of recently released census data.To put it in context, this number is equivalent to Jammu & Kashmir’s population. As many of 7.84 million (65%) married children were female, reinforcing the fact that girls are significantly more disadvantaged; eight in 10 illiterate children who were married were also girls.

The data further reveal that 72% of all Hindu girls married before 10 were in rural areas, as compared to 58.5% Muslim girls, with higher levels of education correlating with later marriage.

India can curb its inflation in the current international climate of ‘peculiar stagflation' and in the context of activism by the Group of 20 (G-20) countries, according to Kaushik Basu, Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India.

Answering questions after speaking at a forum here on Tuesday, Dr. Basu said: “I feel pretty confident that Indian inflation will be curbed with a combination of three things — fiscal measures, monetary measures, and supply management.” With monetary and fiscal measures initiated over the last year, supply management was now possible “if you can bring more goods onto the market.” In essence, “it is a combination of demand-and-supply management,” he said, pointing out that he was now leading “a committee which actually looks at both sides.”

India has an unusual inflation. Average inflation is 5.2% but vegetable inflation 30%. Hence the rich, for whom vegetable is a tiny fraction of spending inflation is not that high. For the middle class & the poor who spend a large part on food & vegetables, inflation is sky high.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan recently returned the Punjab Universities Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2023 to the Raj Bhavan. The Bill, passed in the state Assembly by the AAP government in June 2023, seeks to replace the Governor with the Chief Minister as the Chancellor of the universities.

The Bill along with two other Bills – The Sikh Gurdwaras (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and The Punjab Police (Amendment) Bill, 2023 – were sent by Governor Purohit to the President for her consideration in December 2023 following the Supreme Court’s November 10 ruling that “Governors cannot sit on state Bills”. The apex court’s order came on the Mann government’s petitions contending that Governor Purohit had been withholding his approval to the Bills passed by the Assembly.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) slammed Delhi lieutenant governor VK Saxena and his letter to the chief secretary alleging that chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is taking a “low calorie diet” while in jail. In its response letter, AAP questioned the intentions of the lieutenant governor and expressed genuine concern for Arvind Kejriwal's life.

The reactions come after the Lieutenant Governor's Office wrote to chief secretary Naresh Kumar, expressing concern over the “willful low calorie diet” of Arvind Kejriwal in jail, despite of sufficient food being provided to him. The letter said that Kejriwal has lost weight in jail as he has not fully consumed the prescribed diet intentionally.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said: “The BJP is in power in Gujarat for 28 years and at the Centre for eight years. From 2017, we are witnessing massive seizures of drugs from Gujarat ports. India’s obscenely widening levels of inequality now reflect in the corporate world. Top 10% command 95% of the profit share, while the bottom 80% account for a mere 0.3% of profits of the corporates listed in the BSE. The corporate-communal nexus, crony capitalism, huge loan wavers and massive tax concessions in the Modi decade have resulted in this situation. This sets in motion new conflicts between big corporates & MSMEs. Informal sector contributes nearly 45% of the GDP and employs 75% of the workforce. Between 2015-2023, 63 lakh small enterprises shutdown and 1.6 crore jobs lost. Enriching the rich, impoverishing the poor-Modinomics.

Khalid has been behind bars since September 2020, awaiting his trial under the UAPA for his alleged involvement in the larger conspiracy surrounding the communal violence that broke out in February 2020 in the national capital.

He has been accused along with various others, including Pinjra Tod members Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal, Jamia Millia Islamia student Asif Iqbal Tanha, and student activist Gulfisha Fatima.

The 4 mainstays of his strategy in Gujarat have remained same when he became PM. 1 ] Communal polarization, [2] the capture of institutions like Police & Judiciary [3] Making of a new kind of crony capitalism conducive of jobless growth as well as inequalities and of course Moditva , a specific kind of high tech communication based national populism. This is Gujarat Model & has been ‘ nationalized’ after 2014.

Every now and then, the AAP flirts with Hindutva, but it is unlikely to trouble either the BJP or other parties. However, it is the party’s governance approach that can be seen as being at odds with the orientation of the Modi government, whose credo is outsourcing and privatisation. This approach of the AAP has created a furious rage in the “establishment”, which consists not just of the BJP but also old Congress hands, bureaucrats, and some private businesses. So, for the past few years, Delhi has been the site for the wrecking ball that seeks to disable the AAP’s schemes, cut its budgets, delay funds, and focus on finding a smoking gun in the Delhi liquor policy by building a case through approvers.

The Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has ordered the premature release of Uday Bhan Karwariya, a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and an influential leader from Prayagraj, who was convicted in 2019, along with his two brothers, for the murder of a former Samajwadi Party legislator.

The decision to set 55-year-old Karwariya free comes less than a year after the government allowed the early release of former cabinet minister Amarmani Tripathi and his wife Madhumani, who were serving life imprisonment for the murder of poetess Madhumita Shukla, with whom Amarmani was alleged to have had an intimate relationship. Both Tripathi and Karwariya belong to the dominant Hindu Brahmin community.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra Moves Supreme Court Against Requirement Of Food Sellers Along #KanwarYatra Route To Display Owners' Identities

On July 18, 2024, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarnagar, issued a directive requiring all eateries along the Kanwar route to display the names of the owners. This direction was extended statewide on July 19, 2024.

The petition, filed though Advocate Shadan Farasat, contends that these actions exacerbate communal discord and threaten the livelihoods of affected individuals. Food entrepreneurs name their shops to cater to out-station travelers like Kanwar pilgrims, but the directive forces them to change these names to reflect the religious identity of the entrepreneur, the petition states.
