The internship scheme, for instance, will require 500 companies to take interns for 12 months and pay them Rs 5,000 per month out of their CSR funds. The availability of cheap labour all year round might make these companies hesitant to recruit new workers on a more regular basis. For the interns, this does not constitute long-term employment with a clear career progression path, nor do they necessarily get work experience that enhances their employability. Skilling youth to fit into industrial jobs has received a lot of attention. What is not clear is whether there would be adequate demand for these freshly-skilled youths. The four segments of Viksit Bharat — women, youth, the poor and the farmers — may not end up doing much better after this budget is dusted and shelved.

Budget 2024: Did the Centre Really Commit Rs 15,000 Crore to Andhra Pradesh's Amaravati

No grant, World Bank involved

Her remarks made later in the press conference make it further clear that it is not a grant per se. She said, “The 15,000 crore that we promised to them [Andhra Pradesh], we are getting it for them from the World Bank.”

In all likelihood, the words “facilitate” and “arrange” make it clear that the promised amount would be a loan that Andhra Pradesh may have to repay fully or partially depending on the Centre’s modalities.

A war of words has already broken out in Andhra Pradesh between the ruling TDP and the opposition YSR Congress. Former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party sought to know from the TDP and the Centre how Andhra Pradesh, a revenue deficit state, can bear the debt burden.

Scientists have confirmed a cave on the moon, not far from where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed 55 years ago, and suspect there are hundreds more that could house future astronauts.

An Italian-led team reported Monday that there’s evidence for a sizable cave accessible from the deepest known pit on the moon. It’s located at the Sea of Tranquility, just 250 miles (400 kilometers) from Apollo 11’s landing site.

The pit, like the more than 200 others discovered up there, was created by the collapse of a lava tube.

WE WANT INDIA BUDGET, NOT NDA BUDGET

We are usually very aware when we do not feel safe. The alarm bells in our head immediately go off. We get tunnel vision and try to find a way out. This is what happens when, say, you are outnumbered 100 to 1 by hostile people in an unfamiliar place or a group of toughs eye you in a dark alley. In addition to these obvious examples, you might not feel safe even when everything is ‘normal’. For example, feeling uneasy in a meeting with your boss or being worried about what your friend will say about your new partner.

At the individual level, psychological safety allows us to feel comfortable about speaking openly, expressing our concerns and taking risks. When we feel our suggestions, questions and opinions are respected and valued, we feel psychologically safe. The absence of psychological safety typically reduces performance. We see this all the time in sports teams and in corporate offices. In both settings, people restrict themselves because they are afraid of making mistakes. Fear stops them from pushing the limits and therefore, they do not achieve optimal performance levels.

Latin America made "remarkable progress" against food insecurity last year and is now set to reduce the population afflicted by malnutrition to below 5% by the end of the decade, according to an expert report from the United Nations

The data showed that 14 million people in South America no longer fall into the "food insecurity" category in 2023, due in part to favorable farm financing, as well as better grains production and industrial capacity, even as extreme climatic events made worse by global warming have hit the region
