SEBI Buch saga is a case of a “suit to sari meritocracy trap” “I’m an ivy league alum, corporate honcho entitled to my meritocratic gains, be thankful I chose to work in govt” - the tone deaf attitude of Buch & her IIM ilk to the demands of public office

Expectations of probity increase when a business leader (figuratively, a suit) takes up public office (sari/safari). Sebi chief Madhabi Puri Buch’s perplexity at the allegations against her shows a cognitive dissonance between her suit and sari avatars

Those who dominate India’s social and economic life are increasingly impatient with its messy politics. They can’t do away with elections altogether, but the next best thing is to limit this mess. So that the business of governance can be carried out undisturbed for four years and nine months

Today I visited the ancient Hanuman temple at Connaught Place. Hanuman Ji has been our troubleshooter, in the last two years we have been attacked, attempts have been made to break us, attempts have been made to stop the work in Delhi. But Hanuman Ji has protected Kejriwal Ji and the Aam Aadmi Party. I have prayed to Hanumanji that we should continue working for Delhi with his blessings and make Arvind Kejriwal win the upcoming elections and make him the Chief Minister again. -CM @AtishiAAP

The terms in the tenders by Rajasthan and Maharashtra, which have identical criteria, are tailored to match Adani Group’s operations and ground plans. The group has already bagged one contract and is the frontrunner for the other. The massive contracts bind states to buy power for 25 years.

Maharashtra and Rajasthan have in quick succession issued tenders calling for power producers who could supply electricity for 25 years. A key criterion in both the tenders was that the producer should have the capability to supply power generated from both solar and thermal power plants together.

By introducing the bid specification that only power producers who can generate mammoth thermal and solar capacity in tandem can compete, the state governments whittled down the competition for Adani Group.

This month marks the 10th anniversary of Make in India, and it is useful to take stock and assess whether the programme has delivered on one of the central planks of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s signature pitch: an invitation to the rest of the world to “Come, Make in India”. To cut to the chase, Make in India has been a qualified failure. India has failed to capitalise on favourable global conditions and substantially increase investment in manufacturing.

The strategic question for Indian policymakers was how to increase the share of manufacturing investment in the composition of Foreign Direct Investment, or FDI, inflows. Historically, the country has lagged peers in Southeast Asia due to the region’s more welcoming environment for foreign investors. The Asian Development Bank also suggests that foreign investors favour Southeast Asia because of opportunities from regional integration.

According to the IMF, India is now the fastest-growing major economy. Yet, many of its cities are pockmarked by slums sprawling right next to expensive real estate. Dharavi in Mumbai happens to be Asia’s largest. This booming India and broken India is a tale of two cities where people live entirely different lives. In the first, money is often no object while in the second, want and deprivation keep constant company.

There is a reason why India’s economic growth has been so lop-sided. Nobel prize winning economist Amartya Sen noted that since independence, India’s income inequality has been mainly driven by low investment in good-quality education and healthcare. So, while the educated and healthy workers in upper-income groups take advantage of new opportunities to make more money in a growing economy, poorly educated and unproductive workers in low-income groups struggle to make ends meet.

Treta Yug returns in Delhi politics… Manish Laxman, Atishi Bharat and Kailash Gehlot call themselves Kejriwal's Hanuman

There is a lot of discussion about the characters of Ramayana in Delhi politics. Manish Sisodia has called himself Kejriwal's Laxman. Chief Minister Atishi has called herself Kejriwal's Bharat and has announced to run the government by wearing wooden sandals. Cabinet minister Kailash Gehlot says that he is Kejriwal's Hanuman.

The opposition alleges that Chief Minister Atishi has insulted the dignity of the post of Chief Minister by keeping a chair in Kejriwal's name. It is wrong to compare Kejriwal with Lord Ram. Lord Ram went on exile to fulfill his father's promise, while Kejriwal went on exile because of corruption cases.

On this Kailash Gehlot said that look, whether it is BJP or Congress, whatever Aam Aadmi Party does, they have some problem with it. In Indian culture, there is a tradition of giving respect to our elders, our Gurus. I don't think there is anything wrong in this. If a person says that doing something which is a part of the culture is wrong, then it means that he is opposing the culture as well.

He said, if Bharat ruled by keeping Lord Shri Ram's sandals, then is BJP also trying to say that it is against Lord Shri Ram? BJP leaders have to think about what they are saying. The remote control thing that is being talked about, was Lord Shri Ram controlling Bharat with a remote?
