Delhi tree felling: CJI Sanjiv Khanna recuses from hearing contempt case involving Delhi LG VK Saxena
Modi government has thrown North India into the smoke of pollution The incidents of stubble burning are continuously increasing in BJP ruled Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. On the other hand, incidents of stubble burning have reduced in Aam Aadmi Party-ruled Punjab. These statistics are not ours but of the BJP government at the Centre. When the Punjab government can reduce incidents of stubble burning, then why can't the BJP government at the Centre do it? Instead of doing any work, the Central Government is doing politics and pushing the entire North India towards Medical Emergency. @AtishiAAP

The Supreme Court slammed the Commission on Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Monday for delayed action while directing Stage IV of the Graded Response Plan (GRAP) to continue even if the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital and its regions fell below the ‘severe-plus’ 450 threshold. A Bench of Justices A.S. Oka and Augustine George Masih said the CAQM, rather than taking pre-emptive action to contain air pollution, waited in vain for the air to improve.

Life of an Indian, today
POLLUTION Delhi NCR turns into a gas chamber. Year after year. Crores suffer. Kids contract lifelong ailments. Governments unable to resolve. Citizens go silent. Media does routine reporting. More than 100 other Indian cities horribly air-polluted. Ditto for rivers. No solution in sight, except jargons, committees, promises, reports, and more committees.
INFLATION Almost everything is costlier. Earnings of masses not rising in proportion. Middle classes consuming less food. Shrinkflation a reality. Lower segments hit hard and dependent on doles. Dropping quality of life not even a political issue any more, going by media reporting. Citizens silently suffer. Thalis shrink. Free rations cover calorie-suffiency, not nutrition-sufficiency.
TAXATION Common Indian hit hard by every manner of extortionate taxes - income tax, toll taxes, GST on everything. Almost 50% of incomes lost in taxes. Corporates enjoying lower tax rates, and going debt-free, while not creating as many newer jobs at scale, or newer factories. And to citizens, return on taxes very poor - very few good quality free schools, hospitals. Only election-time 'freebies' some relief (some of which, in the long run, not sustainable).
ECONOMY TROUBLED Corporate earnings not good due to consumption demand not robust. Rupee dropping steadily against US Dollar. Inflation high. Trade data with China depressing. Economy flooded with Chinese goods. Stock market finally factoring in the ground reality, and falling. Trump's arrival an ominous sign for trade and tariffs. Rise of AI from the West and China a huge threat for prosperity and domination.
YOUTH DIRECTIONLESS Education not linked to jobs, as earlier. Colleges and Schools costlier each year, with non-commensurate output. Rush for govt. jobs due to lack of formal private sector jobs creation at scale. No plan by govt. to create crores of new jobs, only diversionary tactics. Even costly schemes like PLIS focused on production figures, not net jobs created.
Ruling regime unperturbed. Going on with cultural-nationalistic narratives. Talking of 2047 and 3047 as if 2025 doesn't exist. Elections delinked from real issues. Turned towards history and culture. An entire generation of youth will see its future compromised. Amrut Kaal.

Failure to disclose foreign assets to incur Rs 10 lakh fine: I-T dept The Income-Tax Department on Sunday cautioned taxpayers that failure to disclose assets held abroad or income earned in foreign shores in the ITR can attract a penalty of Rs 10 lakh under the anti-black money law. The department issued a public advisory as part a compliance-cum-awareness campaign launched recently by it on Saturday to ensure that such information is reported by the assessee in their Income Tax Return (ITR) for assessment year (AY) 2024-25. The advisory specified that foreign asset, for a tax resident of India in the previous year, includes bank accounts, cash value insurance contract or annuity contract, financial interest in any entity or business, immovable property, custodial account, equity and debt interest, trusts in which a person is a trustee, beneficiary of settlor, accounts with singing authority, any capital asset etc., held abroad.

Decades of caste discrimination have contributed to India having higher levels of child stunting rates than across Sub-Saharan Africa, new research has revealed. The two regions together are home to 44% of the world’s under-five population but account for about 70% of stunted children globally - a key indicator of malnutrition.
But, while both have made significant strides in recent years, India’s rate stands at 35.7%, with the average across Sub-Saharan Africa’s 49 countries at 33.6%.
A child is considered stunted when they fall short of the expected height for their age - a clear sign of critical nutritional gaps. Why caste plays a role in childhood stunting in India?
A study conducted by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) has found that thermal power plants in the national capital region (NCR) emit 16 times more air pollutants than stubble burning. “…Thermal power plants in NCR emit 16 times the 17.8 kilotonnes released from burning 8.9 million tonnes of paddy straw,” the CREA study stated.

All that the central govt has aggressively pursued in the past 10 years in Delhi is snatching away the powers of the elected govt. When it actually came to taking responsibility, this annual outcome speaks for itself. Hunger for power >>> genuine concern for people's welfare.
🇨🇳Beijing, through aggressive policies, combined with significant government investment and enforcement, led rapid improvements in air quality between 2013-2017.
What can New Delhi learn from Beijing?

The Supreme Court raised fresh concerns over the low conviction rate in cases filed under the PMLA — 5000 PMLA complaints with only 40 convictions secured over a decade. Similarly in the Arvind Kejriwal case, the court highlighted discrepancies.

Doesn't this mean India lacks the infrastructure — high-quality education, state-of-the-art facilities, and cutting-edge research opportunities even after 77 years of independence?

Dalip’s farming philosophy challenges the conventional reliance on seasonal harvests. Unlike most farmers in Punjab who take two crops paddy and wheat and wait for five-six months to sell their crops in mandis, he has diversified his approach. By cultivating a combination of traditional crops such as wheat, high-value cash crops such as garlic, vegetables like cauliflower, turnips, and Jhaar Karela, which has medicinal value and good for the diabetics, beets and Basmati, he has unlocked the potential of his land to provide daily earnings.
