    The Middle Class is 30-40 % of population in India. They Drive Consumption, Support Growth, Fuel Govt Revenue. Middle class as per one definition 3-4 Lakhs to 30 Lakhs Annual Income. Lower Middle Class, Upper Middle Class. During the Pandemic the Middle Class shrinks & poverty spreads. One estimate said Middle Class shrunk from 99 Million to 66 M after pandemic. Wage increase has been a tiny 0.01 %. Most of the Middle Class work in Manufacturing & Retail Sectors. Unemployment is at 8%. Food Inflation is 10.9%. Overall Inflation 6.2%. So Middle Class is forced to take loans to maintain the same standard of living. Debt to GDP Ratio in 2024 is 35 %. So lesser consumption, lower demand is slowing our GDP. Companies like Nestle, HLL are under pressure & they expressed it. Consumer driven economy is in trouble. Purchasing Manager’s Index is 12 Months Low at 56%. This indicates how the Manufacturing Sector is faring .Bizarre GST rates are seen by all. Popcorn is one example. Middle class is feeling the pinch. 18% GST on Health Insurance is a huge huge burden which the Govt., is refusing to change. Education Services, Coaching Classes are under 18% GST that is hurting Middle Class. A 2 Wheeler is a necessity to Middle Cass. 28% is GST on 2 Wheelers. Middle Cass bears Double Taxation. They pay 20-30 % IT in addiction to GST on all Services & Goods. 2 wheelers & cars have multiple taxes like Road Tax & GST. High End Luxury Green Cars attract far lesser GST than 2 Wheelers.
    SOLUTIONS : IT Limit 5 lakhs - Essentials like Education, Health, House related Taxes to be minimized. — Tax Ultra Rich. 2 % of Wealth Tax on 100 Crores wealth.— Inheritance Tax —1% are controlling 40% of India’s wealth. Of the 10.57 Lakh Crore of Loans in the last 5 years, 5.52 Crores are to the Large Industries. Declining Middle Class is not good for the India’s consumption driven economy.
