The share of gold held by the Reserve Bank of India in its foreign exchange reserves has doubled in the last four years as on March-end, a report by the RBI showed on Monday.
As of end-March, the RBI held 879.59 metric tonnes of gold, compared to 854.73 metric tonnes at the end of September.
The proportion of gold held domestically rose to 511.99 metric tonnes as of March 31, against 510.46 metric tonnes at September-end, the RBI said.

In an attempt to dismiss the criminal charges levied against him in an overseas bribery probe, the representatives for Gautam Adani and his companies have met with United States President Donald Trump administration officials, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Days after Trump’s election win in November, the outgoing Biden administration unveiled the indictment against Adani and his nephew, Sagar, along with a parallel civil lawsuit from the Securities and Exchange Commission, the report noted.
While the Adani Group denied the claims, the prosecutors said that Gautam Adani promised to pay USD 250 million in bribes to regional officials in India to lock in solar-powered contracts, Bloomberg added. In an attempt to restrict the financial impact the allegation may have on his international business prospects and dodge conviction, Adani has since looked to sway US authorities through different channels, the report mentioned.
To work on his behalf and pursue talks with the US administration, the reports highlighted that Adani has enlisted high-powered lawyers and lobbyists. One such meeting took place in March with prosecutors in the US Attorney’s office and main Justice Department, the report added.
