  1. Punjab has emerged as top performer in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2024 as per a report released by the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on Monday.

    The NAS is India's most credible survey to evaluate learning achievements of students in classes III, VI and IX for providing valuable insights into educational outcomes nationwide.

    Punjab stood first with 80 marks in Class III ranking, surpassing Himachal Pradesh (74) and Kerala (73). For Class VI ranking, Punjab and Kerala are joint top performers with 67 marks each, followed by Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu and Chandigarh, both with 60 marks. In Class IX ranking, Punjab outperformed other states and UTs with 57 marks to grab the top spot. Kerala secured the second spot with 56 marks and Chandigarh ranked third with 53 marks.

    Education Minister Harjot Bains said that the report reflects on the performance of Punjab schools. In the nationwide survey conducted by the NCERT in collaboration with states and UTs to assess learning outcomes and identify areas for improvement, thousands of students participated from across the country.

    Bains said that an impressive 845 government school students qualified the highly competitive National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), while 265 students successfully cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains this year. This showcases the department's commitment to fostering academic excellence and empowering students to excel in the country's most challenging competitive exams.- The Tribune

  1. Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Initiative: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a nationwide Special Intensive Revision to verify and clean up the voter lists. It aims to ensure transparency and correctness in the electoral rolls before upcoming elections. Bihar will be the first state where this revision is being actively carried out.
    This is critical ahead of upcoming elections in the state to correct any irregularities in the voter rolls.
    11 Accepted Documents for Voter Registration:
    The ECI has officially listed 11 valid documents that can now be used as proof for voter registration or verification.
    These include documents beyond Aadhaar, ensuring broader inclusion.
    The revision is intended to build trust in the electoral process by removing bogus or duplicate voters. It also ensures eligible citizens are not denied their right to vote due to documentation issues.
    Some opposition leaders (like Tejashwi Yadav) have expressed concern that the revision may be used to exclude certain communities or voter groups. New voters or those added post-2003: required to submit the enumeration form alongside at least one of the 11 documents plus a self-declaration of Indian citizenship.Special rules apply by birth date:Born before July 1, 1987 → must prove their own date/place of birth.Born July 1, 1987 – Dec 2, 2004 → must also supply proof of one parent’s citizenship.
