  7. Historic announcement by Punjab Chief Minister @BhagwantMann for areas.CM Bhagwant Mann released a video message stating:
    Sitting in the hospital room, I constantly worry about Punjabis.
    A significant decision was taken by the Punjab Cabinet today:
    Due to the flood, soil has entered the rivers, which has caused further damage, and the fields are filled with sand. We are launching a sand scheme for this. Farmers will be given permission to remove soil from their fields, and they can also sell the soil. The Punjab Cabinet has granted permission for desilting.

  1. A compensation of 20,000 per acre will be given for crop damage. Cheques will be handed directly to the farmers.

  2. A compensation of 4 lakh will be provided to the families of the deceased.

  3. For houses that have collapsed, a survey will be conducted, and the government will provide compensation for them as well.

  4. For farmers who have taken loans from cooperative societies or government banks, the loan repayment period has been extended by 6 months. No installments or interest will need to be paid during this period, and no one will trouble you.

  5. Assistance will be provided to those whose livestock died in the flood.

  6. The government will conduct vaccinations to prevent the spread of diseases.

  7. Fogging machines will be provided, and doctors will visit clinics in every village. Camps will be set up near people’s homes so that check-ups can be done and medicines can be provided.

  8. Cleaning will be carried out in cities and villages.

  9. A survey will be conducted for the damage caused to school buildings and grids.

At a time when boats are the only means to access several flood-hit areas in Punjab, a Kapurthala-based firm is making and delivering boats to supplement relief efforts in the state, which is battling the worst deluge since 1988.

  1. Pritpal Singh Hanspal, whose firm Hanspal Traders is engaged in manufacturing railway coach parts for the Rail Coach Factory, said he was just doing “sewa” by giving boats to those in need of them for conducting relief and rescue operations in flood-ravaged districts.
    Hanspal along with his two brothers Devinder Pal Singh and Sukhwinder Pal Singh, has so far supplied nearly 70 boats. They have fixed a target of making 100 boats for flood-affected districts including Amritsar, Barnala, and the Harike belt. They said that they will go beyond the target if the requirement would be more. As the water level is high in flood-hit villages, he has been receiving numerous calls for boats, Hanspal said.
