    In a shocking and bizzare incident, a 71-year-old advocate allegedly hurled a shoe at the Chief Justice of India (CJI), B R Gavai, during the proceedings in Court Number 1.
    The accused was allegedly unhappy with recent remarks made by the CJI during a PIL seeking restoration of a Lord Vishnu idol in the Khajuraho Temple complex in Madhya Pradesh.
    Soon after the incident happened on Monday, Delhi Police arrested the accused, identified as Rakesh Kishore, who allegedly took out his shoes and threw them at the CJI around 11.36 am.

    There are 118 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) that feed into the World Bank’s (WB) debt statistics, with almost half of the $437bn owed to the Washington DC-based multilateral lender coming from just 10 of them.

  2. India takes the top spot. The world’s most populous country owed $39.3bn to the WB at the end of 2023, up by $1.03bn from a year earlier but down from $39.7bn at the end of 2021. India’s outstanding balance with the WB is almost double that of the next biggest debtor, Indonesia, which owed the bank $22.2bn. Pakistan and Bangladesh followed with just short of $20bn and $19.8bn, respectively.
