BJP’s election expenditure Rs 3,335 crores in last Financial Year 2.5 times more than 2019-20.
BJP’s cash and deposits near ₹10,000 crore, audit report shows.The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is sitting on cash and bank deposits worth nearly Rs 10,000 crore, according to its annual audit report for 2024-25 submitted to the Election Commission.
The party’s accounts for the year ending March 31, 2025 show a sharp rise in its financial corpus, with cash and deposits increasing by Rs 2,882.32 crore during the year. The BJP’s general fund closed at Rs 12,164 crore, up from Rs 9,169 crore in the previous financial year.
Of the general fund, Rs 9,996 crore is held in cash and bank deposits, while Rs 234.11 crore has been extended as loans and advances. The party also holds fixed deposits worth Rs 9,390 crore.
The enlarged corpus comes after a year in which the BJP regained power in Delhi from the Aam Aadmi Party and won Odisha from the Biju Janata Dal. Election-related expenditure during 2024-25 nearly doubled to Rs 3,335.36 crore from Rs 1,754.06 crore in the previous year.
Election expenses accounted for 88.36 per cent of the party’s total expenditure for the year. Of the amount spent on elections, Rs 312.9 crore was used to provide financial assistance to candidates, while Rs 583 crore was spent on travel by aircraft and helicopters.
Spending on publicity and campaigning remained high. The BJP spent Rs 1,125 crore on electronic media advertisements, Rs 897 crore on advertisements, Rs 90.93 crore on rallies and campaigns, and Rs 51.72 crore on meeting expenses. An additional Rs 107 crore was spent on cutouts, hoardings and banners, and Rs 123 crore on printed material.
During the year, the BJP received voluntary contributions amounting to Rs 6,125 crore, a significant rise from Rs 3,967 crore in 2023–24. Interest income from bank deposits stood at Rs 634 crore.
The party also filed an income tax refund claim of Rs 65.92 crore and earned Rs 4.40 crore as interest on the refund.
The financial corpus will now be overseen by newly appointed BJP president Nitin Nabin, who assumed charge on Tuesday.
